Air Liquide on May 22 announced its proactive approach towards sustainable biomethane production through the adoption of a new internal charter, developed in collaboration with various field experts and WWF France.

This initiative aims to go beyond current regulations, setting a new benchmark in the industry by measuring and tracking progress towards more sustainable production while contributing to the development of a global production framework, the company said.

Thanks to this collaborative effort, Air Liquide has now integrated actionable sustainability performance indicators into its investment governance. The company has also established a clear roadmap, highlighting key fundamentals that each project should follow in their development.

The charter is centred around four main pillars: ensuring biomethane production supports the broader shift to renewable energy sources, promoting sustainable agricultural practices that benefit the environment, enhancing local ecological health and promoting resource reuse and recycling and protecting diverse biological systems and mitigating potential environmental hazards.

The synthesis of the main outputs of this collaboration will be made available by Air Liquide and WWF France, serving as a lever for sustainable practices in the biogas industry and sparking further discussions with the entire ecosystem.
