Swedish biogas company Biokraft has signed an exclusive land agreement with the industrial group Perstorp to design a biogas plant at Perstorp’s industrial park, Biokraft announced on June 20.

The plant is planned to have a capacity of 130 GWh/year of biomethane and 17,000 tonnes/year of liquid CO2, with an expected completion date in 2027.

Biokraft aims to expand its existing production capacity from 585 GWh/year to 3 TWh/year by 2030. The company is also considering the possibility of connecting the plant to the gas grid to distribute gas to western Sweden and northern Europe. The plant will use approximately 300,000 tonnes/year of substrate, primarily consisting of manure and other residues from agriculture and the food industry.

Initially, the plant in Perstorp was planned for another location. However, after positive discussions with residents, the municipality, and Perstorp, the current site was identified as a better option.

"Perstorp municipality is a very suitable place to build a biogas plant. It is close to northern Europe, has good road connections, and is located in a landscape with ample access to manure and organic waste from surrounding farms," said Michael Wallis Olausson, VP of Growth at Biokraft.
