Finland’s Deltamarin and Greece’s ECOLOG have collaborated on an LNG-powered LCO2 carrier design, the Finnish company said on May 16.

The new design is intra-EU, short range, low pressure, and shallow draft and for the purpose of tendering at shipyards worldwide.

Throughout the initial design phase, various solutions were explored to optimise the vessel for efficient LCO2 transportation. This included different configurations of the cargo containment and handling system, accommodating the wide range of CO2 compositions, Deltamarin said.

The design integrates LNG dual-fuel (DF) propulsion, shore power (Alternative Marine Power, or AMP), and wind assistance, minimising the vessel's environmental footprint.

ECOLOG is dedicated to building and owning a fleet of liquid CO2 carriers to support the CCUS sector. Their strategy focuses on connecting hard-to-abate emitters with cost-competitive sequestration sites and high-value re-use facilities, leveraging ECOLOG’s midstream infrastructure, which includes ships and terminals.
