Heygaz Biomethane to acquire Irish biogas producer Ormonde Organics

Heygaz Biomethane, a portfolio company of private equity fund InfraVia Capital Partner, announced on June 21 that it had reached an agreement to acquire Irish biogas and biomethane producer Ormonde Organics.
The management team of Ormonde Organics will remain in place, joining the Heygaz executive team and continuing to hold equity participation in the business. The transaction is subject to customary clearance from the competent Irish authorities. The value of the deal was not disclosed.
Ormonde Organics operates two anaerobic digestion plants located in Portlaw, County Waterford, and Youghal, County Cork, in the south of Ireland. These plants have a total production capacity of 60 GWh/year. Full planning permission has been secured for a third facility, which is expected to become operational by the end of 2025.
Currently, most of the biogas produced by these plants is used to generate renewable electricity. A small portion of the biogas is upgraded to biomethane and delivered as bio CNG. Ormonde Organics is developing a facility in conjunction with Gas Network Ireland to inject biomethane directly into Ireland’s national gas grid from its Portlaw site. This will facilitate the commercialisation of biomethane within the integrated EU market, Heygaz said.
In a significant policy development, Ireland announced the publication of a National Biomethane Strategy last month. This strategy outlines policy and regulatory measures and provides a roadmap to develop a scalable biomethane industry in Ireland. The country aims to produce and deliver up to 5.7 TWh/year of biomethane by 2030.
Heygaz Biomethane is a European renewable gas platform with current production of around 100 GWh/year of biogas. The company gathers assets in operation and development across Greece, Norway, Spain, and Portugal.
