Engineering service provider Seatrium on May 8 announced a three-year technology collaboration agreement with the classification society American Bureau of Shipping (ABS). This partnership aims to accelerate decarbonisation and energy transition efforts within the maritime and offshore industries.

The agreement will focus on four key themes: decarbonisation, electrification, new energies, and digital transformation. Through collaborative research and development initiatives, Seatrium and ABS will work towards the development and commercialisation of green retrofit products and services.

These initiatives encompass a wide range of solutions, including carbon capture technologies, energy efficiency enhancement measures such as air lubrication systems and wind-assisted propulsion, and the integration of low/zero carbon energy sources on offshore assets. Additionally, the partnership will explore opportunities in electrification and digital technologies to further enhance sustainability and operational efficiency.

“ABS and Seatrium have achieved great successes through our previous collaborations, and we are committed to harnessing our distinct strengths and capabilities to push the boundaries and transform the way we approach decarbonisation, energy transition, and digital transformation," Chris Ong, CEO of Seatrium, said.
